Hey you, yes you! Are you passionate about food and farming, or just eager to make money from agriculture? Have you searched everywhere and found no clue where to begin? Look no further. Your solution is here!
At Agroye, we are committed to helping businesses and entrepreneurs grow in the agricultural sector. As many know, Africa is a continent blessed with a large landmass, but the discovery of petroleum led to the underutilisation of this large resource. Petroleum became the largest product we exported and made up 80% of the GDP, but thankfully, in recent years, we have recorded a significant increase in agricultural produce. Between 2011 and 2012, Agriculture contributed to over 40% of Nigeria’s GDP, while the oil sector saw a dwindle in sales.
Over the years, Agriculture has continued to grow and is now one of the highest-grossing sectors in the economy. Due to the tropical nature of the climate, the nation's land is quite fertile, with over 71 million hectares of landmass used for farming and pasturing. This also means that the agricultural sector is responsible for the employment rate, with over 70% of Nigerians involved in farming, mainly at a minimal level. As large as this sector may be, participation and investment have mostly been on a small scale, leading to a snail-like movement in agriculture. This stunted growth is largely due to a lack of funds to implement some agribusinesses and a need for proper infrastructure. Also, access to these lands is paved with challenges like climate change, lack of good roads, poor land tenure system, banditry, crude equipment, rural poverty, and many others.
To this end, there have been a lot of new initiatives and training programs to help tackle this problem and assist agri-entrepreneurs in growing their business. These training sessions are very important for existing and new agribusiness owners because they equip you with effective techniques needed for running a modern agricultural business, teach the commercial prospects of how to operate a cost-effective business, important policies, contemporary agricultural practices, dos and don'ts, lucrative ventures to invest in and many more.
