Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially opened a newly constructed middle-level food agro-hub in Idi-Oro, Mushin, with the aim of revolutionizing food distribution, addressing increasing food costs, and tackling post-harvest losses.
Additionally, Governor Sanwo-Olu launched a N750 million Lagos Market/Trader Money initiative to assist 15,000 traders, providing each beneficiary in the initial phase with N50,000 from the government.
To ensure fair distribution, each Local Government will submit 200 names, with market association leaders expected to receive slots.
Governor Sanwo-Olu expressed excitement during the agro-produce hub commissioning, highlighting its significance in achieving the state's food security goals.
The hub, covering 6,400 square meters, features parking space, dry and cold storage, aiming to offer economies of scale for market players.
The governor stressed the importance of the Food System Transformation Agenda, part of a five-year Agricultural and Food Systems Roadmap (2021-2026), demonstrating the administration's commitment to collaboration with stakeholders.
The construction of the Central Logistics Hub at Ketu-Ereyun, Epe, is ongoing, and plans include constructing three more hubs across the state.
Commissioner Abisola Olusanya clarified that the hub's primary goal is to establish a storage facility prolonging the shelf life of perishable foods, ensuring food security and affordability.
